Inside Out

Inside Out

Bliss should come from within. We do not want the bliss that arises from looking on the outside. We want bliss that is eternal.
— Dada Bhagwan

Ever try on your underwear and t-shirt and you discovered them inside out....or even backwards?  Maybe in the early morn you thought your clothes were right side out. Maybe you believed otherwise. Did the tight fit signal a needed change?  Maybe at the time you didn't really realize the physical awkwardness until you took a couple of steps towards a reflection. Maybe you even said "Hey, why not?" Who's going to notice?  No one cares but me? Maybe a time for a under fashion statement! Surely my outerwear would cover up my mistake.  But you step closer and look at yourself more deeply into a nearby mirror, checking out your psyche by asking yourself: "What would life be like lived inside out?"

Of course, life experiences can be both - outside in and inside out. Many of us energize from outside ourselves; while others energize through what resides inside. But one way attracts

Many of us hide inside, hoping no one will know. They are playing the same shadow game as you so you need not worry. Your true identity feeks safe temporarily. But it will  eventually reveal itself. It is just a matter of time.

You may be familiar with your thoughts, feelings and soul. You may even think they are you, but you are wrong. Your insecurities are just your fears speaking, hiding genuine feelings and your authentic being. They all hang out inside along with ego and so much more. They may comfort you for now. Much of what has either been ignored or not invited out. Much of what has been stored and stashed away! Hidden from most, but visible to only the astute and aware. Only to those who accept you no matter what.

combining thought and feeling to form creativity. Art, literature, music, love, thought, feeling, faith, attitude, communication, connection, passion, bliss spirituality and soulfulness all emanate from within. While these sensations may be ignited by outside stimuli, the light and fire lay within us.

A classmate from elementary school contacted me recently and asked me if I liked  music.  I said I did and then she proceeded to tell me how music helps her. I asked her how? She explained she uses musical lyrics to communicate with people. She likes to use singers' words to express herself. An odd admission I thought. Did she want me to break out in song? Recite some lyrics? Did she not trust her feelings and her own words? Had music brainwashed her? Had she seen one too many LA LA LANDS? Was she trapped inside a musical time warp? These questions and more fanned and stoked my thoughts.

I told her I liked music especially with meaningful messages. I added I like to use my own words rather than someone else's when I communicate. That way, I told her, I can speak with more authenticity and heart. That way Beyoncé or James Taylor's words don't suddenly appear and then speak for me while speaking out of context.

Using others' words does not resonate with me. It feels fake and staged. Of course, the entertainment aspect is a trendies pull. Hopefully the future doesn't encourage "civilizations" to communicate in the voices of their musicians. I can however imagine a sadder world where lovers sing their LA LA LAND romantic intimacy using others catch or canned phrases. Alas, the poets don't often get their due unless their words find their way to music charts!

From what I have heard since anchoring near Miami and Nassau music isn't encouraging "original" and individual expression. Frequently, volume beats down words. When booze cruisers motor close by blaring their rap and screaming a drunken sing-along, it is obvious how a musical sound has seduced many. But then those who imbibe excessive alcohol to get high (or low as the case may be), drink to lose themselves. The social pressure is often too great to be ones Self!

I've thought about this intoxicating tendency since I was first introduced to fraternity kegs in college. And I have realized that most of us drink and listen to outside influences.

Yesterday a young boy, maybe 10 years old, rowed by Mystique singing the popular lyrics "We are the champions" at the top of his lungs. At first I thought him mildly entertaining as his rowing and singing skills were equally awkward. Though [his] four-word refrain acted his personal motivator, [his] intoxication only coupled [his] erratic oars.

We feel a tune resonate hear a tune resonate Music often plays from some outside source and then we hear it and it resonates within. It plays to our sensitivities and emotions then as if it resonates within us, our body and soul response to it.

The son of some new friends of mine when he goes on stage to sing introduces his music as "original". It is totally inspired by his energy and experience. I chuckle every time he sings, and announces "this song is about a girl"!  If you listen to this 16-year-olds lyrics, his words are more than inspired by a girl. His words carry multiple meanings and thus enrich every listener to the nuances of HIS words. They are original.

We all have different tastes in music playing in our head. No where is this more common than on weekend waterways. Friday through Sundays Miami and Nassau social boaters crank up the volume and blare their brand across the harbor - not intentionally a battle of  bands or vocalists; but one of eardrum boundaries. Apparently the tune coordinators care little for an auditory area. Their sound is all that matters. Invading within the earshot space of others who may prefer to listen to their own music or a quiet solitude is rarely a consideration. And that is the point. Their music appears outside themselves.  Their music is forced into to the ears of innocent bystanders.

Music and sailing have much in common. Music invites movement much like sails invite wind.  A boat's hull invites movement and waves while music invites ears to brain and sensory movement.  Music moves our bodies, thoughts and emotions. Great music resonates: its sound, beat and lyrics penetrate our being. Sailing does that to one's spirit as well. That song has moved me!

QUEEN LYRICS

I've paid my dues
Time after time.
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime.
And bad mistakes ‒
I've made a few.
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through.

(And I need just go on and on, and on, and on)

We are the champions, my friends,
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.
We are the champions.
We are the champions.
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world.

I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls.
You brought me fame and fortune, and everything that goes with it.
I thank you all.
But it's been no bed of roses,
No pleasure cruise.
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race,
And I ain't gonna lose.

(And I need just go on and on, and on, and on)

We are the champions, my friends,
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.
We are the champions.
We are the champions.
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world.

We are the champions, my friends,
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.
We are the champions.
We are the champions.
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions.

It is clear that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness will come from the inside and spread outwardly.  A deeper spiritual side is inside each of us until we are ready to let it out. If it would wake up, human spirit could be the champion of the world.
