Since I began blogging in 2013, much of my writing has been related to the sea or sailing. Almost all of my 400+ blog posts have some marine, environmental or nautical subject connection or perspective. My posts display my offbeat humor as I occasionally take a tongue-in-cheek look at human absurdity. My naughty nautical topics and posts about paradoxes reveal this lighter side of my blog. Even though many of my writings about nautical issues have heeled (leaned) towards a unique point of view, I frequently sprinkle my adventures / posts with some life commentary. I never lie or mislead because I am not attempting to make headlines or grab an audience for profit or advantage.
Opinion, either the resistance, acceptance or condoning of an issue, especially in a democracy, matters greatly. It is, after all, our citizen's Constitutional freedom to express ourselves freely! So when humor no longer becomes a laughing matter, but a sad and serious commentary on our society, we have to look deep inside our own wounded and fear-based psyche. When the cartooning and clowning gets out of control, aka when human inhumanity becomes more than divisive and destructive, that is insane, my writing becomes serious.
As a blogger, I know my writing may not alter or turn many minds, but I know by taking a stance, I am at the least not condoning the status quo. I may be naive to believe that peace, education, love, freedom and our environment are most important for humanity's experience, existence and survival. Please note how similar The famous scene from Steven King's The Shining is to reality? Could this parallel actually be a sign of the insanity the world witnesses in our White House almost every day?
So, as a blogger, I know my writing may not change many minds, but I know by taking a stance, I am not condoning the status quo. I may be naive to believe that peace, education, love, freedom and our environment are most important for humanity's experience, existence and survival. So do we let insanity rule us because we are too fearful or do we call the doctor, lawyer or candlestick maker to remove this cancer. Can anyone one else see through the holes in our societies Healthcare system?
That being said, I have rarely devoted any of my blog postings to mere politics. To me, the political area is mostly a bout about money, power and corporate interests. I prefer to write about reality and truth. Not fake and fabricated issues that attempt to grab headlines or turn heads. I prefer to write for healthy hearts and souls - those who recognize and respect depth and insight...and truth. When a world continually laughs at its own insanity without changing its script...that is without supporting humanitarian, children, mother, freedom or social or environmental causes, it is time to examine the patient. So I guess this blog post is about the sea of our insanity - the false and the true!
As a writer, I might alter some human perception and behavior, but unlike a politician or madman that is not my intent. As a retired teacher/tutor, I thought I would share some obvious observations - our leadership, democratic freedoms and reputation in the world are full of holes.
Still staying aligned to my blog's mission, my focus in this blog post is not to punch more holes, but to simply highlight the paradox of Trump political cartoons. They however do punch holes of disgust, dissent and divisiveness of his policies, Presidency and our nation's people.
America's socio-economic-political system and insanity elected him. Yet as we express our disgust or defense for our President, we make fun of him as well as us. As cartoonists depict, disrespect or defend him, the electorate needs to examine its own psyche. Complainers and critics blame Trump's dysfunction and his supporter when in reality our society has contributed. Yet most of us fail to see or acknowledge our role in his emergence and election. After all, how could a sane electorate elect so flawed and ill-equipped an individual to lead? It could only happen if we weren't so flawed and angry ourselves!
In many ways, Trump is the product of decades, maybe centuries, of American ignorance and greed. His election was bound to happen when half of an naive, uunconscious nation is more focused on entertainment than environment...more focused on profit than on progress....more focused on divisiveness than diversity....more focused on shallow than substance....more focused on control than consciousness. We, the populace, have actually failed ourselves. Because we have failed ourselves, we have attracted the opposite of what most of us want. None of us want turmoil or tantrums. None of us want anger or antagonism. None of us want hatred. We all want love, but we don't know how to accept difference and division. Most of us want unity, but only if it fits our definition and benefits us. Most of us don't really work at relationships; we just react to them. And of course, we Americans often fail to comprehend how responsible we all are for this man-child manifestation. Didn't we create him by supporting and condoning his bully, babyish behavior as entertainment? Those of you who voted for him, now have your daily dose of dysfunction.
When caricatures portray our leader as a buffoon, even if he is one, they do nothing to alter our reality. In fact, all they do is perpetuate the image that our dis-United States of America is leaderless right now. And does not garner respect from anywhere. Yes, our country is still afloat but it is drifting without a competent skipper. When we Americans selected a spoiled child to turn the helm, what direction did we expect our course heading to be? An old friend of mine voted for him for one reason - to shake things up. That he has done in his almost year in office. But what has he done that is unifying?
When a child wields power with temper tantrums, parents need to respond and take corrective action. When a nation family is divisive like the dis-United States, idiocy rules. When no Constitutional parenting governance appears, the muck and mire await. Generational dysfunction without accountability and consequence are causes...Trump is only a resulting symptom...meanwhile the solution is a more awake, aware and educated electorate.
Just look at the arrogant downfall of history's empires. All collapsed because of male energy of arrogance and greed. It is the society and populace that will suffer for the blind following of leadership ignorance and denial. And as much as history teaches, societies and generations continue to ignore these lessons. As much as adversity makes any populace rise up and awaken to the travesty; the inevitable questions always arises: Do we have enough time? Can we avoid the reef or the shallows that loom ahead? Are we too late to correct an egregious wrong? Maybe our nation needs to suffer the consequences of being mislead? In sailing terms, our vessel is floundering and there is no time like the present to right the ship.
While some push for walls as a solution, America is also stuck with holes in its thinking and in its policies. These holes leak away at the very foundation of our humanity. History is full of examples of how holes and walls sank efforts to control outcomes. Most of the examples are self-inflicted and self-sabotaging. Arrogance, anger, ignorance, selfishness and apathy eat away at our core values. Yet if we could steer a course towards acceptance, love and trust, humans might discover a way to survive and unify.
When will we look at ourselves, at our society, at our system to reexamine our own role in this cartoon? When will we realize we are sick? When we don't address and revolt against the injustices, we condone them. When apathy, indifference and inaction rule the actions of our society functions, we are lost. When voices fail to unite...when power is more important than people....When money is more vital to humanity than environment...when lies, fake news and entertainment dominate political discourse....When lining one's pockets continues to be more vital than a world's health?...when the poor, downtrodden and different are disfranchised and marginalized?....when a few try to control a majority?...when will we stop listening to false promises? When we have lost our values, morals, priorities and direction, we are destined to struggle for our more than survival. We are fated to fail. Just how far and long will we will tolerate ignorance and incompetence? Just how far and long will we will tolerate ignorance and incompetence? Success is still questionable.
Our country is sinking slowly....stuck with and in a number of holes.....and in the eyes of the world sinking to its lowest level ever. While many holes leak away at the very foundation of our society, humans can create and change as they did to fight for our freedom from a tyrant. When a king attempts to control a nation to fit his own worldview, people will resist, rebel and revolt. to impact values, morality, electoral system, Constitution, though mainly in our perceptions and thinking. As a world leader the US has been deeply holed by being itself and by its own doing. It's undoing itself.
What is most disturbing is much of the causes for our country's esteem and reputation is self-inflicted. Our sinking reputation has come from selfish, power-hungry crew who have placed self-interest above humanitarian concerns. In many ways the dis-United States has appeared because of an arrogant and ignorant mentality. This masculine ego-based thinking has felt threatened and out of control. But it has been scuttling itself and thereby crippling its progress and position in the world. And with its self-destructive tendencies is disrespecting and destroying the democracy it was build to uphold and honor. While our diversity was our strength, our divisive leader is our greatest flaw. But let us not overlook, his flaws are ours as well.
As much as adversity makes most populaces awaken and rise up to travesty; the inevitable questions always arise:
- Do we have enough time?
- Are we too late to correct an egregious wrong?
- Can we avoid the shallow reefs looming ahead?
- Do we all need to suffer the flood of consequences for being mislead?
Admitting to a mistake is actually a strength. Correcting a wrong is often the responsibility for the grown-ups to fix. When close to 3,000,000 more people voted for Hillary, the system elected the loser. How can any initial government foretell the future? And if WE don't fix it, WE ALL deserve what WE get. If we sink below the surface, we drown. We can not sink further than the bottom, the bottom does not matter. It is the surge, waves and rising water that matters....metaphorically speaking!
When we do not act to save or protect ourselves from insanity and madness, we too have lost our minds and our way!
