Music Variety Pack

Can music be any more varied than human nature? How about as varied and numerous as this variety of sea species? The diversification and combinations of music (genres, groupsvocal ranges, names, brands, identity, reputations, popularity, themes combined with attitudes, perspectives, thoughts, feelings have always been so wide and huge, all and each one can never be just counted or discounted. Like the sea, music moves constantly. Even the sea has its own melody. It's forever changing currents run hot and cold everywhere around our global home. As musics sounds and resounds, they move us or not. They penetrate our souls or bounce off our brains. They seep into our psyches and make us bold. They give us hope. Make us swoon. Make us know our selves and our own diversity.

Otis Redding:

American Tune

Many’s the time I’ve been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I’ve often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I’m all right, I’m all right
I’m just weary to my bones
Still, you don’t expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home
I don’t know a soul who’s not been battered
I don’t have a friend who feels at ease
I don’t know a dream that’s not been shattered
Or driven to its knees
Oh, but it’s all right, it’s all right
For lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the road
We’re traveling on
I wonder what went wrong
I can’t help it, I wonder what’s gone wrong
And I dreamed I was dying
And I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying
Oh, we come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age’s most uncertain hour
And sing an American tune
Oh, it’s all right, it’s all right
It’s all right, it’s all right
You can’t be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow’s going to be another working day
And I’m trying to get some rest
That’s all I’m trying to get some rest

Peter Frampton:

Sail Away

Sailing away today, maybe come back this way

I don't know which way I'm supposed to go

(Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; Mama ooh, ooh, ooh)

Today... (Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; ooh, ooh, ooh; ooh, ooh, ooh; ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)

Schooning around, will the sun shine on me?

(Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; Mama ooh, ooh, ooh;

Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; ooh, ooh, ooh; ooh, ooh, ooh)

Sailing away today, I'll sail today

Should I come back to stay

Well, I can't see what you mean to me

(Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; Mama ooh, ooh, ooh;

Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; ooh, ooh, ooh; ooh, ooh, ooh; ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)

Cause there's something inside pushing me on

Draining my pride

(Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; Mama ooh, ooh, ooh; Mama ooh, ooh, ooh)

Sail away.

Sailing away today

Can't you come out to play? Ooh ooh ooh,

No more sound 'cept the seagulls bound to stay

(Sailing away, sailing away, sailing away, today)

Ooh I'll sail away

(Sailing away, sailing away, sailing away)

Ooh I'll sail away

(Sailin' away, sail away, sailin' away)

Sail today ... (sailin' away, sail away, sail away)

Sail away.

Sailing away today, ooh

Maybe come back to stay

I don't know which way I'm supposed to go

(Sailing away, sailing away, sailing away)

To go ... ooh

(Sailing away, sailing today, sailing away)

Well, I'm schonning around

But will the sun shine on me? (Sailin' away, sail away, sailin' away)

Yeah, sail away, yeah (Sailin' away, follow away, today)

Come on' today

Sail away (Sailin' away, follow away, sailin' today)

Ooh sail away

Pete Seeger:

Michael, row the boat ashore, hallelujah.

Michael's boat is a music boat, hallelujah

Michael's boat is a music boat, hallelujah

Michael, row the boat ashore, hallelujah.

Michael, row the boat ashore, hallelujah.

Sister help to trim the sail, hallelujah

Sister help to trim the sail, hallelujah

Jordan's River is deep and wide, hallelujah.

Meet my mother on the other side, hallelujah.

Jordan's River is chilly and cold, hallelujah.

Chill's the body, but not the soul, hallelujah.

Michael, row the boat ashore, hallelujah.

Michael, row the boat ashore, hallelujah

Peter, Paul & Mary:

Big Boat

I went up the levee to pack some sacks

And I thought I'd bring me some money back.

Big boat up the river and she can't come down.

My woman on the levee wearing a frown.

Big boat up the river and she can't come down [4x]

Somebody tell that woman, somebody tell that woman, somebody tell that woman

There's a big boat up the river and she can't come down

Big boat up the river and she can't come down

Big boat up the river blowing loud and fast

If she don't get to deep water she'll never land

And my woman on the levee shaking her hand,

She thinks she's gonna quit me for another man

Big boat up the river and she can't come down [4x]

Somebody tell that woman, somebody tell that woman, somebody tell that woman

There's a big boat up the river and she can't come down

Big boat up the river and she can't come down

Big boat up the river blowing loud and fast

And my woman on the levee feeling mighty sad

She thinks I got the money that I once had had

But when I get her home it's gonna be too bad.

Big boat up the river and she can't come down [4x]

Somebody tell that woman, somebody tell that woman, somebody tell that woman

There's a big boat up the river and she can't come down

Phil Ochs:

Scorpion Departs, Thresher

Sailors climb the tree, up the terrible tree

Where are my shipmates have they sunk beneath the sea?

I do not know much, but I know this cannot be

It isn't really, it isn't really,

Tell me it isn't really.

Sounding bell is diving down the water green

Not a trace, not a toothbrush, not a cigarette was seen

Bubble ball is rising from a whisper or a scream

But I'm not screaming, no I'm not screaming,

Tell me I'm not screaming.

Captain will not say how long we must remain

The phantom ship forever sail the sea

It's all the same.

Captain my dear Captain we're staying down so long

I have been a good man, I've done nobody wrong

Have we left our ladies for the lyrics of a song?

That I'm not singing, I'm not singing

Tell me I'm not singing

The schooner ship is sliding across the kitchen sink

My son and my daughter they won't know what to think

The crew has turned to voting and the officers to drink

But I'm not drinking, no I'm not drinking

Tell me I'm not drinking

Captain will not say how long we must remain

The phantom ship forever sail the sea

It's all the same.

The radio is begging them to come back to the shore

All will be forgiven, it'll be just like before

All you've ever wanted will be waiting by your door

We will forgive you, we will forgive you

Tell me we will forgive you

But no one gives an answer not even one goodbye

Oh, the silence of their sinking is all that they reply

Some have chosen to decay and other chose to die

But I'm not dying, no I'm not dying

Tell me I'm not dying

Captain will not say how long we must remain

The phantom ship forever sail the sea

It's all the same.

Queen:

Sail Away

In America you'll get food to eat

Won't have to run through the jungle

And scuff up your feet

You'll just sing about Jesus and drink wine all day

It's great to be an American

Ain't no lions or tigers

Ain't no mamba snake

Just the sweet watermelon and the buckwheat cake

Ev'rybody is as happy as a man can be

Climb aboard, little wog

Sail away with me

Sail away

Sail away

We will cross the mighty ocean into Charleston Bay

Sail away

Sail away

We will cross the mighty ocean into Charleston Bay

In America every man is free

To take care of his home and his family

You'll be as happy as a monkey in a monkey tree

You're all gonna be an American

Sail away

Sail away

We will cross the mighty ocean into Charleston Bay

Sail away

Sail away

We will cross the mighty ocean into Charleston Bay

Rocking Pontoons:

The Last Farewell

There's a ship lies rigged and ready in the harbor

Tomorrow for old England she sails

Far away from your land of endless sunshine

To my land full of rainy skies and gales

And I shall be aboard that ship tomorrow

Though my heart is full of tears at this farewell

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly

More dearly than the spoken word can tell

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly

More dearly than the spoken word can tell

I've heard there's a wicked war a-blazing

And the taste of war I know so very well

Even now I see the foreign flag a-raising

Their guns on fire as we sail into hell

I have no fear of death, it brings no sorrow

But how bitter will be this last farewell

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly

More dearly than the spoken word can tell

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly

More dearly than the spoken word can tell

Though death and darkness gather all about me

My ship be torn apart upon the seas

I shall smell again the fragrance of these islands

And the heaving waves that brought me once to thee

And should I return home safe again to England

I shall watch the English mist roll through the dell

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly

More dearly than the spoken word can tell

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly

More dearly than the spoken word can tell

Running Wild:

Lions of the Sea

Strong and proud the cruise, black banner at the top

The spoondrift hits the bow, they round the reefs and rocks

The voice of freedom whispers in the rushing wind

They roam the raging sea on their gliding wings

They fight the black to save the truth

They fight the scorning lie

Oppressions wall they will destroy

They'll fight it till they die

Lions of the sea

They ride the wind eternally

They fight to be free

Roaming the seven seas of fate

They save their souls from black, from its evil void

Facing the challenge its coldness to destroy

They deny the temporal power, they deny their evil lies

They're strain at the leash until the evil dies

They fight the black to save the truth

They fight the scorning lie

Oppressions wall they will destroy

They'll fight it till they die

Lions of the sea

They ride the wind eternally

They fight to be free

Roaming the seven seas of fate

They brave the sea eternally, they tame the raging waves

Freedom is their destiny, the sea will be their grave

Strong and proud the cruise, black banner at the top

The spoondrift hits the bow, they round the reefs and rocks

The voice of freedom whispers in the rushing wind

They roam the raging sea on their gliding wings

They fight the black to save the truth

They fight the scorning lie

Oppressions wall they will destroy

They'll fight it till they die

Lions of the sea

They ride the wind eternally

They fight to be free

Roaming the seven seas of fate

Lions of the sea

They ride the wind eternally

They fight to be free

Roaming the seven seas of fate

Coast of Malabar

Far away across the ocean. Beneath an Indian star

Lives a little dark eyed maiden On the coast of Malabar

In the harbour where we anchored I could see her shy and sweet

With a blossom on her bosom And the wild waves at her feet

I can see the crowded city. The palm trees green and tall

And the starry night she danced with me Inside those city wall

She gave a little wistful glance. As she looked across the bay

And she whispered if you love me, why do you sail away

I must go my little dark eyes. I must go my Indian star

But I'll come again and love you. On the coast of Malabar

In my dreams I oft-times wander to that far off Indian sea

And the days we spent together. They come back again to me

I can see the crowded city, the palm trees on the shore

But that little dark-eyed maiden, she's there no more no more

Fare thee well my little dark eyes. Fare thee well my Indian star

In my dreams I will live forever on the Coast of Malabar
